OpenStack VIO for VMware Admins

VMware is also playing a big role into the Open Source Community and has launched a new distribution of OpenStack called VIO 1.0 (VMware Integrated Open Stack) that can run on your vSphere environment. During this presentation, I am going to describe the architecture and projects that we need to install for a successful OpenStack deployment.

VIO Architecture

VIO Connects vSphere resources to the OpenStack Compute (Nova), Network (Neutron), Storage (Cinder), Image Service (Glance), Identity service (Keystone) and Orchestration components.

VIO is implemented as compute and management clusters in your vSphere environment. The compute cluster handles all tenant workloads. The management cluster contains the VMs that comprise your OpenStack cloud deployment. It also contains the load balancing, DHCP, and database services.

VMware Integrated OpenStack deployments can use NSX for the Networking component. You will require an additional cluster for the NSX Edge nodes.
